This painting took so much longer than I thought it would. But this is the first time I have really tackled people in any way, shape, or form in months. It was kind of an adventure. I found this scene on a Saturday morning down by the Ferry Market in San Francisco. The market has some wonderful food - lots of fresh fruit, jams, popcorn, cheese, you name it! So tasty. But behind the tents and stalls, there are some fantastic people watching opportunities. Plus, when you add in the the view of the Bay Bridge - just amazing!

This was a commission for a private collector here in Singapore. One of his fondest memories of Singapore is the Sunday brunches. They are these very elaborate affairs with huge cheese bars, oysters from all over the world, not to mention the free-flowing champagne (or house drinks) and the impressive spread of desserts. Really, it is an incredibly decadent affair. Most of the major hotels here sponsor them, but none of them can match the ambience that you have at the Raffles Hotel in the Billiards room, which is the one this collector chose to show. I wound up having such a great time with this piece; the perspective was lots of fun to work with, although quite the challenge!

Daily Commute No 1

Just a view of the daily commute here in Singapore.

I was very happy with the way that this turned out. The differences between the images in my head versus what I am putting down on the canvas are getting smaller.  After I finished this I felt a sense of accomplishment I haven't felt in a while.  It was really difficult to work with because I decided I wanted a cool light.  Trying to wrap my head around cool midday light rather than the warmer light you see the rest of the day is tough to wrap your head around.  And I didn't want the painting to get too cold too quickly.  But overall, I'm giving myself a pat on the back.  I think I'm going to open a bottle of wine and toast to a Happy Friday!
